Whether you are more versed in classical repertoire or contemporary literature, you’ll find opportunities abound at the Frost School of Music to explore different musical styles as you develop your keyboard skills. Upon graduation, you may choose to seek a career as a concert performer, an accompanist, or a church musician, or, you may continue on to graduate school for further preparation. Whatever you decide, a degree from the Frost School of Music will open doors.
As a Keyboard Performance major, you will study with faculty who excel at teaching as well as performance; who have distinguished themselves both in the classroom and on the stage.
The Keyboard Performance curriculum emphasizes interpretation, musicianship, and technical mastery of the instrument. This program offers you the opportunity to accompany vocalists and instrumentalists under the tutelage of an accompanying coach or a studio teacher. Music theory, music history and literature, and keyboard literature, are also part of the pedagogy curriculum. During your final year, you will be required to present a public recital.
Chamber music, accompanying, and orchestral experiences are also available for the keyboard major. To enhance your study, you may wish to participate in choral and instrumental ensembles appropriate to your skills and interests.
