Exciting, busy, and tremendously fulfilling, report students
throughout the University community. From free films at the
Cosford Cinema to the University’s annual Homecoming celebration, there is never a shortage of things to see and do on campus.

The Department of Student Activities serves as the central
information point for campus activities, programs, entertainment events, clubs, and organizations. Students wishing to affiliate with a student organization can choose from more than 210. The department also has job opportunities for students as disc jockeys at the Rathskeller, production crew for concerts and special events, projectionists, and more.

The Council of International
Students and Organizations represents all undergraduate and graduate international students and more than 30 international student
groups. The Council organizes major
events each year such as United
Nations Day in the fall and
International Week in the spring, and
offers numerous social activities
throughout the year.

Extracurricular opportunities abound
for students wishing to develop
organizational, program planning,
problem solving, decision making,
and leadership skills. The
Department of Student Development and Orientation helps individual students and student organizations develop programs and strategies to enrich their learning experiences. The Department’s Leadership Institute, Orientation Program, and Community Development Center are committed to providing information and resources. A Volunteer Services Center works with individual students, student organizations, administrators, and faculty to promote volunteerism. Through a network of more than 260 community service agencies, the center matches students with community service opportunities compatible with their interests and needs.

Undergraduates may choose to participate in Student
Government, which has responsibilities and input across all
areas of the University community, from the Athletic Department to Residence Halls to the University’s Board of Trustees. The Frost School of Music, as well as every other school and college within the University, is represented in the Student Senate. In addition, the Frost School of Music has its own Student Council, with representatives from each department.

  The Graduate Student Association,
the formal channel of communication
between graduate students,
the faculty, and the administration,
offers a host of activities and services
to the graduate student community,
including a graduate computer
lab, grant writing and career
development workshops, access to
numerous academic and local periodicals, and scholarship and
employment information. All students
registered for graduate credit are
automatically granted membership.

Living on campus can be an important
part of a student’s education.
Five of the six campus living areas
are residential colleges, which are living environments that support and enhance the learning experience. Built on the traditions of Oxford and Cambridge, each residential college is directed by a master, a senior faculty scholar appointed by the President of the University, and associate masters. Music school faculty often serve as masters or associate masters of the residential colleges.

For those who choose to live off campus, a Department of
Commuter Student Affairs strives to meet students’ practical,
social, informational, and advocacy needs. It is located in the
Whitten University Center, where many student services and
activities are available, including computer labs, dining services, lounge areas, recreational facilities, and student organization offices.
